DPR records 60 attacks by Ukrainian army in past 24 hours
DONETSK/KYIV. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian armed forces have launched 60 shelling attacks on the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in the past 24 hours, a spokesman for the DPR operational command told reporters on Thursday.
"The Ukrainian armed forces have committed 60 truce violations in the past 24 hours. They shelled districts of 25 populated localities of the republic, using artillery, tanks, mortars, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, grenade launchers, and small arms against them," he said.
The strikes damaged three houses in Dokuchayevsk and another one in the village of Spartak, the spokesman said.
One Ukrainian serviceman has been killed and another four have been wounded in shelling attacks mounted by militia forces, which have violated the truce 35 in the past 24 hours, the press center of the headquarters of Kyiv's military operation in south-eastern Ukraine said.
Attacks involving mortars, grenade launchers and infantry fighting vehicles were recorded near the Avdiivka industrial zone and also in the Mariupol and Luhansk sectors, it said.
According to the Ukrainian headquarters, the militia breached the truce in the Donetsk sector as International Committee of the Red Cross representatives were working there. A fire broke out in Zaitseve after civilians' houses in the village came under fire. Ukrainian servicemen who arrived to help local residents were also shelled, Kyiv said.
