Russian military help deliver UN humanitarian aid to Syria's East Ghouta

DAMASCUS. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Servicemen of the Russian center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria have helped the United Nations deliver humanitarian aid to the East Ghouta suburb of Damascus by providing security of the international humanitarian truck convoy, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross' delegation to Syria Marianne Gasser said.

According to Gasser, the convoy encountered no impediments and Russian servicemen provided full security of ICRC employees. The Russian military police guaranteed safe delivery of UN humanitarian cargo to the East Ghouta de-escalation area, she said.

Russia coordinated the delivery of 300 tonnes of humanitarian aid - flour, cereals, oil, food care packages and medicines - to the Damascus suburb with the Syrian authorities and ICRC officers, Gasser said.
