Failure of anti-Russian policy behind surge in Moldovan fruit, veg exports - president

CHISINAU. Aug 18 (Interfax) - The failure of the Moldovan government's anti-Russian policy is behind a surge in Moldovan fruit and vegetable exports to Russia, Moldovan President Igor Dodon said on Facebook.

Moldova exported 9,300 tonnes of fruit and vegetables - 8,180 tonnes of them to Russia; and 108,000 tonnes of fruit - 103,000 tonnes of it to Russia, between January and July this year, Dodon said.

Moldova exported 981 tonnes of vegetables and 63,000 tonnes to Russia in 2016.

"These figures prove once more that no political provocations are capable of changing the course of nature and damaging our strategic relations with Russia economically. Let's carry on," Dodon said.

"However much the government and parliamentary opposition might try and spoil relations with Russia, they are not succeeding. The figures speak for themselves," he said.
