Pentagon chief to visit Kyiv on Aug 24, plans meetings with Ukrainian president, defense minister
KYIV. Aug 18 (Interfax) - United States Secretary of Defense James Mattis will visit Kyiv on Thursday, August 24, where he plans to meet with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak, the U.S. Department of Defense said on its official website on Friday.
The Pentagon said that at these meetings the secretary of defense would again assure his Ukrainian partners that the U.S. has still firmly adhered to the goal of reinstating Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and fostering the two countries' strategic defense partnership.
