Over 2,000 people involved in firefighting efforts in central Rostov-on-Don, no fire spreading threat - Ministry of Emergency Situations
ROSTOV-ON-DON. Aug 21 (Interfax) - There has been no threat of fire spreading in central Rostov-on-Don, where efforts have been made to extinguish a major fire already for a few hours, the Emergencies Ministry Southern Regional Center head Igor Oder said.
"A group of forces and equipment comprising over 2,000 people, 212 units of equipment and seven helicopters are being involved in firefighting efforts. The fire is prevented from spreading along its whole parameter; there is no threat for the fire to spread. Localization will be declared soon," Oder told reporters.
Firemen have localized a fire on six out of nine sectors of firefighting efforts in Rostov-on-Don, Igor Oder said.
"Firefighting efforts are under way in nine combat sectors. Fire localization efforts are complete in six of them, they carry on in three of them," he said.
A Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Ilyushin Il-76 plane is en route to reinforce the aerial group from Moscow to Rostov-on-Don.
Firefighting efforts are complicated by dense residential districts and high winds with gusts reaching 15 meters per second, Oder said.
