Rosoboronexport holding consultations on shipping S-400 air defense systems to India
MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Rosoboronexport (incorporated in Rostec) is holding consultations on a contract for shipment of S-400 air defense systems to India, Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheyev said.
"We are participating in a tender in India. Consultations are currently under way, and we are exploring delivery timeframes and configurations. We are holding consultations with our Indian partners, inviting them here, and negotiating the contract," Mikheyev said in an interview for Rossiya-24 (VGTRK).
Mikheyev said he hoped that, as soon as the contract passes all clearance stages, no problems should obstruct its signature with India.
After India makes a final decision on buying the Russian systems, the contract should be finalized within a short period of time, he said.
"We have developed a legal basis for military-technical cooperation with India. It's not that a contract can be prepared quickly and easily, but we will employ all our experience," Mikheyev said.
India is interested in buying Russian S-400 air defense missile systems for a number of its regiments, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin earlier told Interfax.
"This is about regiments, not battalions," Rogozin said, answering a question as to how many S-400 systems India was planning to buy.
A regiment set may comprise several S-400 battalions, at least two of them.
Russia and India signed an intergovernmental agreement in October 2016 on delivering S-400 'Triumf' systems manufactured by the Almaz Antey concern.
