Ukraine ups electricity generation 1.9% in January-July
KYIV. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Electricity generation in Ukraine's integrated power grids increased 1.9% year-on-year in January-July 2017 to 90.07 billion kWh, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry told Interfax.
Nuclear power plants (NPPs) increased electricity output by 14.1%, to 52.191 billion kWh. Output at Zaporizhia NPP amounted to 21.919 billion kWh (33.3% more than in 7M 2016), Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP generated 9.449 billion kWh (3.1% more), Rivne NPP 11.125 billion kWh (6.4% more) and Khmelnytsky NPP 9.698 billion kWh (0.2% more).
Thermal power plants (TPP) and combined heat and power plants (CHPP) reduced production 16%, to 29.492 billion kWh. TPP generating companies cut production 17.8% to 23.281 billion kWh, CHPPs saw an 8.7% decline in output, to 6.211 billion kWh.
Hydroelectric power plants in January-July 2017 increased production by 13.5%, to 6.483 billion kWh, and block stations reduced it 3.7% to 0.845 billion kWh.
Electricity production by non-conventional sources (wind farms, solar stations, biomass) rose 17.8% to 1.059 billion kWh.
The share of NPPs in electricity generation was 57.94% (51.77% in 7M 2016), thermal power plants and CHPPs 32.74% (39.75%), hydroelectric power plants 7.2% (6.46%), municipal CHPPs and block stations 0.94% (0.99%), and alternative sources 1.18% (1.02%).
In July 2017, electricity generation in Ukraine declined 1.4% year-over-year to 11.724 kWh.
NPPs, TPPs and combined heat and power plants of the ministry decreased heating supplies 5.2% in 7M 2017 to 13.256 million gigacalories.
Electricity consumption in Ukraine in January through July 2017, taking into account losses in electricity transmission, increased 1.1% year-on-year, to 86.012 billion kWh.
Electricity consumption, not including losses, over the period rose 1.2% to 68.603 billion kWh.
Industry in Ukraine over the period under review increased electricity consumption 1.2% to 28.885 billion kWh, including a 0.8% decline in consumption by the metallurgical industry, to 16.496 billion kWh, a 2.9% increase by the fuel sector, to 2.121 billion kWh, a 10.4% increase by engineering sector, to 2.307 billion kWh, a 17.3% fall in consumption by the chemical and petroleum industry, to 1.457 billion kWh, 8% growth and the food and food processing industry, to 2.503 billion kWh and 6.6% growth on construction materials to 1.284 billion kWh.
Agricultural enterprises increased consumption 7.7% to 2.089 billion kWh, transport - up 5.8% to 4.083 billion kWh and construction - up 14.5% to 0.526 billion kWh. Households consumed 20.634 billion kWh in the period, 0.8% less.
The share of industry in total electricity consumption was unchanged at 42.1% in January-July 2017, and the share of households declined to 30.1% from 30.7%.
In July, electricity consumption, taking into account losses in electricity transmission, declined by 1.5%, to 11.361 billion kWh, and without loss - by 1.8%, to 9.035 billion kWh.
