About 90,000 airstrikes on terrorists delivered since Syria campaign begins - Russian General Staff
MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax) - The Russian Aerospace Forces have delivered about 90,000 airstrikes since the beginning of the Syria campaign, Chief of the Russian General Staff's Main Operational Directorate Sergei Rudskoi said at an Army 2017 international military-technical forum roundtable.
"Aerospace Forces Aircraft have performed over 28,000 combat missions since the launch of the military operation, and about 90,000 airstrikes have been delivered," Rudskoi said.
Russian forces have inflicted substantial damage on the terrorists' command and combat logistics infrastructure, he said.
"Major militants weapon and ammo supply lines have been cut. Terrorist groups have lost their income from illegal sales of petroleum products," Rudskoi said.
Airborne and seaborne cruise missiles launched from surface ships, submarines and strategic aircraft from a distance of up to 1,500 kilometers, as well as strategic bombers, are being used to destroy the most important terrorist targets, he said.
"Special-operations forces, which liquidate terrorist ringleaders, destroy critical enemy infrastructure and adjust our airstrikes, are playing an important role in the defeat of terrorist groups," Rudskoi said.
Russian military advisors, who participate in the planning of military operations, training and preparation of Syrian military units and formations for combat, are providing tangible assistance to the Syrian army command, he said.
