Background radiation levels in Primorye border areas remain normal after N. Korea's missile launch - meteorologists

VLADIVOSTOK. Aug 26 (Interfax) - Background radiation levels in Russia's Primorye Territory remain normal and have not changed following Saturday's missile test in North Korea.

Presently, background radiation in Primorye is at 11-12 micro-roentgens per hour, which is in line with normal levels, the Primorye Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Agency said on its website. Experts measure levels every hour, it said.

Primorye is the only Russian region bordering North Korea.

According to earlier reports citing South Korean media, North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan on Saturday morning.

Several unidentified projectiles were launched from the country's Kangwon-do province at about 6:49 a.m. local time. The missiles flew more than 250 km in a northeastern direction.

The South Korean and U.S. military are currently analyzing the incoming information relating to the missile launch.
