Eleven people held during For Free Internet rally in Moscow - activists
MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax) - More than ten people have been held at a Moscow rally in defense of a free internet, Open Russia movement member Nikita Safronov, who is among those arrested, said.
"There are just eleven of us, we are now being driven onto the grounds of the Krasnoselsky District Police Department. Everyone, who during the For Free Internet rally was standing with posters in defense of [Novaya Gazeta journalist] Ali Feruz, have been detained, as have all those who were nearby," Safronov said.
They include two young women who were held with LGBT symbols and have already been brought to the police department, he said.
The rally, which was permitted by the Moscow authorities, is taking place in Sakharov Prospekt. Thousands of people have come to take part, the police said.
The event was organized by Parnas Party jointly with Civil Initiative, Pirate Party, Libertarian Party, Democratic Choice and Protest Moscow, and two civil rights organizations, RosKomSvoboda and Left Bloc.
