Crimean bridge arch-shaped span delivery to Kerch Strait area begins
SIMFEROPOL. Aug 27 (Interfax) - Transportation of the Crimean bridge arch-shaped rail span weighing 6,000 tonnes from eastern Crimean coast to the Kerch Strait area, where it will be installed on the navigating channel, has begun on Sunday evening, the Crimean bridge project information center reported.
"Waves are 10-12 centimeters high at the present moment, which are much lower than maximally admissible, calculated one-meter-high ones. The weather forecast is favorable in the next two days," the press release said.
The navigation in the bridge construction area is limited from Sunday to Wednesday, August 30. The ban has no effect on ships and vessels of the Navy, federal security bodies, and on the ships, which are involved in bridge construction technological process.
The 19-kilometer-long Kerch Bridge will become the longest in Russia and will connect the peninsula and the Russian mainland via a highway and a railroad.
Two arch-shaped spans, that is, a railroad and a highway are the most sizable bridge parts. Each of them is 227 meters long; the height of arch at the highest point is 45 meters (or 80 meters up from the water surface).
The arch-shaped road span is 1,000 tonnes lighter than the rail one. Its delivery to the navigating channel is scheduled for September.
The arch-shaped spans will ensure unhampered passage of ships through free water area, 185 meters wide and 35 meters high from the water surface.
