Internet project developed in Kazakhstan to identify websites with destructive contents

ASTANA. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's Ministry of Religious Affairs and Civil Society in 2017 identified 1,500 websites spreading harmful contents of a religious nature, head of the ministry Nurlan Yermekbayev said.

"Monitoring of channels disseminating religious materials has been established. Websites with illegal contents are being identified on the Internet and blocked. In 2017, ministry experts studied around 3,000 websites, almost 1,500 of which were spreading illegal or harmful content," he said at briefing in Astana on Monday.

He said that that on August 1 a joint project called Kibernadzor (Cyber Oversight) was launched together with the Prosecutor General's Office, and the Ministry of Information and Communications simplifying the expert examination of websites.

"A special www.kibernadzor.kz website was started within its framework. Government bodies now have the opportunity to identify websites with dubious or harmful contents and post links to these sites or materials in a special section of the website. Officials, from our ministry among others, conduct expert studies without unnecessary paperwork and in a fairly short time. Thanks to this the duration of theological examinations was shortened considerably and documents regarding websites with illegal contents are submitted to courts much faster," the minister said.

"In addition, the opportunity has emerged to determine the authors of destructive and harmful comments and materials posted on the web," he said.
