Freight loading on Russian Railways up 0.36% in Aug - source

MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Average daily freight loading on the network of Russian Railways (RZD) amounted to 3.426 million tonnes in August 2017, a source familiar with the company's operations told Interfax.

This is equivalent to 106.2 million tonnes for the whole month, up by 0.36% from the August 2016 figure of 105.842 million tonnes.

The initial target for growth in freight loading in August was 0.3%, First Vice President Anatoly Krasnoshchek said, even though loading had grown at a faster pace in previous months, including 3.5% in May and 2.6% in June. In other words, the actual result was close to the target, despite certain problems with traffic in Primorye early in the month owing to heavy rains that damaged rail infrastructure.
