Initiators of Russian troops' withdrawal from Transdniestria want war between Russia and Moldova - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Those who suggested to the Moldovan authorities that it is necessary to withdraw Russian troops from Transdniestria want war, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"I do not think that it is necessary to predict war as no one wants it, except for those who directed the hand of Moldovan government representatives when they signed a note about the need to withdraw our servicemen from Transdniestria. It is only those who suggested this to the Moldovan government who want war between us and Ukraine, and between us and Moldova," Lavrov said at MGIMO University.

"It is a policy of deterring Russia. There is nothing personal, as the saying goes. It is where the sanctions and all the rest stem from," he said.

Russian servicemen guard "enormous ammunition stockpiles at depots in Transdniestria," he said.

"Everyone understands that the withdrawal of our group of forces guarding the ammunition depots will depend on how successfully the political settlement issue will be tackled," he said.
