Background radiation in Russia's Primorye Territory normal after alleged N. Korean nuclear test - meteorologists

VLADIVOSTOK. Sep 3 (Interfax) -Background radiation levels in Russia's Primorye Territory remain normal and have not changed following an alleged nuclear test in North Korea, Russia's Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Rosgidromet) said on its website.

"As of September 3, the Primorye radiation situation remains stable. The background radiation level varies between 11 and 14 micro-roentgens per hour, which is totally in line with the territory's gamma-mapping and does not go beyond normal levels," the agency said in a statement.

According to media reports, seismologists recorded a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in northeastern North Korea on Sunday. The earthquake's epicenter was very close to the surface. Foreign media reported that North Korea may have possibly conducted another nuclear test in its territory.
