Russian specialists upbeat about safety at Cairo airport terminal
XIAMEN. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Russian specialists are upbeat about safety levels at the second terminal at Cairo Airport, which Russian passengers will use.
"Our specialists, who have had a preliminary look at the safety situation at the second terminal, are pleased with what they have seen," Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov told reporters.
"The very fact there was a meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS forum is already a good signal," Sokolov said. However he declined to say whether the Transport Ministry would be recommending that flights between Russian and Egypt resume.
When they do, flights will initially resume to Cairo only and all of them will be scheduled flights, reports have said. Russian citizens will land at Cairo's second terminal, which has been equipped with new safety systems. Charter flights to Egyptian beach resorts Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh would begin later, the Transport Ministry has said.
