Russian electricity exports to China total 306.5 mln kWh in 2025 - Chinese customs

MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Russian electricity exports to China amounted to 306.5 million kWh in 2025, according to data from the Chinese customs administration.

In monetary terms, supplies amounted to $13.97 million.

Russia supplied 7.99 million kWh of electricity to China in December 2025, valued at $384,000.

The sole electricity export/import operator in Russia, Inter RAO , has not yet published its data for 2025. The company reported supplying 0.9 billion kWh of electricity to China in 2024, which corresponds to Chinese customs data.

China was previously one of the main directions for electricity exports from Russia. However, supplies to China began to be limited in 2023 due to increased energy consumption in Russia's Far Eastern regions. Electricity exports from Russia to China fell to 3.1 billion kWh in 2023 compared to 4.6 billion kWh in 2022 and subsequently continued to steadily decline.

According to the newspaper Kommersant, China completely ceased purchasing electricity from Russia in January 2026, as export prices exceeded domestic ones.
