EC confirms plans to start disbursing 90 bln euro loan to Ukraine in Q2

BRUSSELS. Jan 13 (Interfax) - The European Commission is preparing to begin disbursing a joint loan of 90 billion euros approved by the European Council as financial aid for Ukraine for 2026-2027 in the second quarter of this year, commission spokesperson Balazs Ujvari said.

The EC first needs to prepare some legislative acts, which will hopefully happen fairly quickly, so it will be able to start paying out the funds at the beginning of the second quarter of 2026, Ujvari said at a briefing in Brussels on Monday when asked about the loan promised to Ukraine for the next two years.

The EC will make several legislative proposals soon that will lay out the procedure for distributing the funds for Ukraine's military and budget needs, he said.
