Moldova's GDP grows 2% in Jan-Sept due to a jump of 5.2% in Q3

CHISINAU. Dec 15 (Interfax) - Moldova's GDP in January-September 2025 amounted to 257.3 billion lei, which in real terms (adjusted for inflation) is 2% more than in January-September last year, the Moldovan National Bureau of Statistics said.

Zero GDP dynamics were observed in H1.

GDP grew 5.2% in Q3 after growing 1.1% in Q2 and declining 1.2% in Q1. The Moldovan economy declined 1.3% in Q4 2024 and 1.9% in Q3.

Economic growth occurred mainly thanks to positive trends in agriculture, construction and industrial production in Q3 2025. These same sectors ensured GDP growth for January-September as a whole.

The contraction in the real estate market and a decline in scientific and technical activities restrained GDP growth.

The Moldovan prime minister said in early December that the Moldovan economy is recovering. GDP growth will be around 2% this year, he said. According to the country's economy minister, GDP could grow 2.5% next year.

This summer, the previous government revised its GDP growth estimate for 2025 downwards from 2% to 1.3%.

The International Monetary Fund forecasts Moldova's GDP growth at 1.7% in 2025 and at 2.2% in 2026. The World Bank expects the country's economy to grow 1.5% this year and 2.7% next year; the European Commission expects 1.6% and 2.6%, respectively.

Moldova's GDP grew 0.1% in 2024 after growing 1.2% in 2023 and declining 5.9% in 2022.
