Azerbaijani president, Iranian FM discuss development of bilateral relations

BAKU. Dec 8 (Interfax) - Baku and Tehran have a vast bilateral agenda with specific roadmaps for every cooperation area, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting with a delegation led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

"President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan and Iran share a long history of relations. Expressing satisfaction with the recent intensification of bilateral relations, the head of state emphasized that the visit of President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian to Azerbaijan, as well as reciprocal visits by other high-ranking officials, contribute to the further expansion of cooperation," a statement on the Azerbaijani presidential website said.

The bilateral agenda is extensive, covers numerous areas, and has specific roadmaps for every issue, it said.

"Highlighting the highly effective work of the intergovernmental commission, the head of state pointed to cooperation in economic, trade, transport, energy, and other fields. President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that the visit of the Iranian delegation would be successful and productive," the statement said.

Araghchi said for his part that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ordered after his election that the development of relations with Azerbaijan intensify.

Azerbaijani-Iranian relations have deep roots, he said, adding that their further deepening was important.

"During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, the statement said.
