U.S. allows transactions with Russian banks for Paks 2 project

WASHINGTON. Nov 24 (Interfax) - The U.S. Treasury Department has issued a license allowing transactions with a number of banks from Russia within the context of the Paks 2 nuclear power plant project.

The document, which was posted on the department's website on Friday, lists the banks with which transactions will now be allowed under this project. They are Gazprombank , VEB, Sberbank , VTB and the Central Bank of Russia.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said earlier in November that the U.S. administration had agreed to lift sanctions against the Paks 2 project. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said later that the lifting of the sanctions against the Paks 2 nuclear power plant being built in Hungary would be indefinite.

"We want them to be able to complete it because we want them to be energy independent," Rubio said.
