Tokayev orders for Kazakhstan to double agricultural output by 2030
ASTANA. Nov 14 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan must double its gross agricultural output by 2030, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
"Over the past ten years, gross agricultural production has grown more than 2.5-fold from 3.3 trillion to 8.3 trillion tenge. By 2030, we must double this figure once again. This is an entirely achievable task for us," Tokayev said at a forum of agricultural workers.
He said that the agricultural sector was developing dynamically. Since the beginning of the year, investment in fixed capital in the agricultural sector has risen by more than 20% to 790 billion tenge, while labor productivity has increased by 37.3% over the past three years.
"Kazakhstan ranks 32nd in the global food security index. This is a good result, but it does not mean we can rest on our laurels. We must be honest - we are still not fully realizing the enormous potential of our agricultural sector. Kazakhstan ranks sixth in the world in terms of the area of its pasture land and 8th in terms of arable land. In other words, we have all the necessary resources - we just need to use them effectively," the president said.
