Rosatom considering localizing energy storage production in CIS countries, including Belarus

MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) - Rosatom state corporation is considering projects for localizing the production of energy storage systems in Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, including Belarus, to meet growing foreign demand, the corporation said.

Rosatom's structures are also cooperating with Belarusian automobile manufacturers on battery projects for vehicles, as well as projects for passenger and freight transport on electric traction, it said.

The first two Russian gigafactories for energy storage systems will be commissioned in December 2025 in the Kaliningrad region and in 2026 in the Moscow region, Rosatom said. "The gigafactories will be loaded with a significant number of orders immediately after launch, including for the Russian market and export contracts," Alexander Pavlyuk, the deputy director of the energy storage business unit at Rosatom's fuel division, was quoted as saying.

Previously, during World Atomic Week, Rosatom concluded agreements with Uzbekistan's Asaka Motors and the Kyrgyz Economy and Commerce Ministry on cooperation in the production of lithium-ion batteries and energy storage systems. In particular, as part of the agreement with Asaka Motors, plans are in place to determine the capacity of an assembly line, develop a program for component localization, identify potential customers, and explore opportunities for exporting products to Central Asian countries and other international markets.
