Russian tourist arrivals in Vietnam doubled last year - State Duma speaker

HANOI. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Russian tourist arrivals in Vietnam doubled last year, State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said.

"We can see the interest of citizens of the Russian Federation in Vietnam growing. The number of tourists doubled last year," Volodin said at the fourth meeting of the Commission for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly on Sunday.

It requires that parliament members "do a more effective job so that people, who choose to spend their vacations in Vietnam or Russia, lack nothing," Volodin said.

"Obviously, a legal foundation needs to be laid for a more dynamic development of this destination, which our citizens will gain from," he said.

Demand for learning the Russian and Vietnamese languages has also grown, Volodin said. "A lot is being done in this area, but it would be right to give extra attention," he said.

"We believe it would be right to expand humanitarian cooperation, including that in education, culture and tourism. This is particularly important as 2026 has been declared a year of Russian-Vietnamese cooperation in science and education," Volodin said.

Volodin is paying an official visit to Vietnam as the head of a State Duma delegation.
