Azerbaijani president discusses cooperation prospects with U.S. investment companies
BAKU. Sept 23 (Interfax) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has held meetings with a number of U.S. investment companies in New York, according to the presidential website.
In particular, Aliyev met with the chief executive officer of Brookfield Asset Management, Bruce Flatt, during which opportunities for Azerbaijan in the field of renewable energy were discussed.
A meeting was also held with the chairman and chief executive officer of Neuberger Berman, George Walker.
"During the conversation, it was noted that the fruitful partnership of the State Oil Fund of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOFAZ) with Neuberger Berman since 2016 has contributed to the development of Azerbaijan's financial sector and the expansion of its international investment opportunities," the statement on the website said.
Walker emphasized the importance for Neuberger Berman of the economic processes taking place in the region. The company is currently evaluating opportunities to expand the partnership within the framework of new projects, he said.
The president and chief operating officer of the investment company Blackstone, Jonathan Gray, also expressed interest at a meeting with Aliyev in expanding successful cooperation with Azerbaijan, in particular with SOFAZ.
Aliyev arrived in the United States on a working visit on September 22 to participate in the 80th United Nations General Assembly.
