Azerbaijan, U.S. to set up Strategic Working Group to focus on cooperation in 3 areas
BAKU. Aug 8 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan and the United States will sign a memorandum of understanding and on the establishment of the Strategic Working Group for the advancement of the Charter on Strategic Partnership.
The document will be signed during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's working visit to Washington, Azerbaijani Press Agency (APA) said.
The strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the U.S. will focus on three areas - regional connectivity, including energy, trade and transit, investment, including artificial intelligence (AI) and digital infrastructure, and security cooperation, including defense sales and the fight against terrorism.
The Strategic Working Group will be in charge of tackling important issues such as expanding regional connectivity infrastructure and investment in the energy sector, regional economic and trade cooperation, and AI development.
"The U.S.-Azerbaijan strategic partnership signifies an influx of American technology and investment into Azerbaijan, as well as increased U.S. economic activity in the region," an APA source said.
As reported earlier, Aliyev is paying a working visit to the U.S. He will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and will hold talks with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on August 8.
