Yerevan declines to confirm reports on preparations for signing peace with Baku in U.S

YEREVAN. Aug 4 (Interfax) - The Armenian government has refrained to comment on reports alleging that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is planning to travel to the United States later this week for a ceremony of signing a peace agreement with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Washington D.C.

"In the event of such visits, definitely, an official statement is issued, and information can be considered confirmed only if there is an official statement. As far as you know, we have not published any official statement thus far. Therefore, we ask you to treat the information on [Pashinyan's] visit [to Washington] confirmed only following an official statement," the government said in an interview with Armenian television.

Earlier on Monday, a number of Armenian and Azerbaijani media outlets quoted journalist Alex Raufoglu accredited at the U.S. White House as saying that U.S. President Donald Trump was to meet with Pashinyan and Aliyev at the White House on August 8 for signing a peace agreement.
