Belarus's proven hydrocarbon reserves put at 46 mln t - Belarusneft

MINSK. July 25 (Interfax) - Proven hydrocarbon reserves in Belarus total an estimated 46 million tonnes, the deputy CEO for geology at state oil company Belarusneft, Petr Povzhik said on Thursday.

"There are 46 million tonnes of recoverable reserves in the country, of which 56% are hard-to-recover reserves. The amount of their production in our region will only grow with every year," Povzhik was reported as saying by state news agency BelTA.

The company intends to enhance its competencies and introduce the best world practices in order to improve the development of reserves and increase production, he said.

"We have everything we need for this now: proper laboratory support, modern software, human competencies. All this together will make it possible to increase the scope of detailed study and development of these deposits," Povzhik said.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko earlier called for the country's oil industry to increase production.

Belarusneft said that oil production rose by more than 4.5% year-on-year in the first half of 2025, but it did not provide actual production figures. The company plans to produce more than 2 million tonnes of oil this year after increasing output by 3.1% to 1.94 million tonnes in 2024.

Belarusneft, which was founded in 1966, prospects for, explores and develops oil fields, drills wells and produces oil and associated petroleum gas in Belarus. The company also works in the oil sector in other countries.
