Astana not planning to raise tariffs on U.S. goods in response to Washington's steps - Kazakh PM
ASTANA. July 15 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan is not planning to raise tariffs on U.S. goods, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov said.
"There are no such plans," Bektenov said at a press conference on Tuesday.
The U.S. measures will not apply to most exports from Kazakhstan, he said. "As to the new U.S. regulations, 95% of exports do not fall under them. Thus, we are not expecting a massive negative impact, there will be no such. Yet, of course, we stand ready for negotiations with our U.S. colleagues and are conducting them," he said.
As reported, the U.S. president sent an official letter to Astana on July 7 to announce the new import tariffs on a number of countries, including Kazakhstan, to take effect on August 1, 2025. A uniform 25% tariff has been set on all Kazakh exports to the United States.
