Kazakhstan's Energy Minister reaffirms commitment to OPEC+ agreement at meeting with bloc's Secretary General

ASTANA. June 4 (Interfax) - Kazakh Deputy Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov met with OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais in Astana, the Kazakh Energy Ministry's press service said.

"During the talks, the minister reaffirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to the historic OPEC+ agreement and its readiness to continue joint efforts to ensure stability in the global oil market," according to the press release.

Both sides praised the results of their cooperation and the agreements reached during the recent meeting of the eight countries.

"Kazakhstan expressed its willingness to further strengthen cooperation with OPEC and member states of the agreement, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing market stability in the interests of producers, consumers, and the global economy as a whole," the ministry said.

In late May, Kazakh Deputy Energy Minister Alibek Zhamaubayev said that Kazakhstan would not cut oil production and had notified OPEC accordingly.

On Saturday, May 31, the eight OPEC+ countries of Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, and Oman, which had previously reduced output by 2.2 million barrels per day, agreed to increase production quotas by 411,000 barrels per day starting in July.
