Armenia makes irreversible choice toward Europe - FM

YEREVAN. May 20 (Interfax) - Yerevan has made its choice toward Europe and hopes to strengthen a truly reciprocal partnership, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said.

"We stand at a pivotal moment. Armenia has been making irreversible choices toward democracy, toward peace, toward Europe. We trust that these decisive steps will be met with equally bold and strategic engagement from our European partners, solidifying a truly reciprocal and transformative partnership," Mirzoyan said at a regional meeting of European Union ambassadors to Eastern European and Central Asian countries on Tuesday.

Armenia is seeking not only support and encouragement, but also partnership and sustained engagement, he said.

The country has cut its dependence on defense imports from a single source down to 95%, he said.

Further, Yerevan s ready to sign a peace agreement with Baku, the minister said, urging EU partners to step up efforts to assist with this process.
