Kazakhstan extends export ban on LPG, propane, butane for another 6 months

ALMATY. May 14 (Interfax) - The Kazakh Energy Ministry has decided to extend the ban on exporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), propane and butane from the country by road and rail for six months.

"The order prohibiting exports expires on May 14, 2025. In this regard, the ministry has decided to extend the ban on exporting liquefied petroleum gas (EAEU HS code 2711 12 970 0), propane (EAEU HS code 2711 12 940 0) and butane (EAEU HS code 2711 13 970 0) from Kazakhstan by road and rail transport for six months to ensure a sufficient LPG supply for the domestic market," the ministry said.

The order was signed by Energy Minister Erlan Akkenzhanov and comes into force on May 14, 2025.

Exemptions include exports by subsoil users who produced the goods under production sharing agreements or subsoil use contracts approved by the president; exports of goods produced or processed from Kazakh raw materials extracted at the Karachaganak field under Kazakhstan's international treaties, and transit shipments originating and terminating outside the country.

As reported, Kazakhstan has maintained a ban on road exports of LPG since 2017 to prevent illegal cross-border shipments of cheap fuel intended for the domestic market.
