New checkpoint opened on Ukrainian-Hungarian border
MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - A new checkpoint, Velikaya Palad - Nagyhodos, has opened on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.
"Today, a new checkpoint, Velykaya Palad - Nagyhodos, opened on the border between Ukraine and Hungary for road and passenger traffic. It will increase the annual capacity of the Ukrainian-Hungarian section of the western border by more than 70,000 cars and 220,000 pedestrians," Ukrainian media quoted Shmygal as saying on social networks.
This event is part of a comprehensive policy to retrofit border infrastructure, which aims to renovate 29 border checkpoints and build 17 new ones by 2030, he said.
"Other measures on the western border will include launching joint customs and border control with neighboring countries, upgrading the technical base and increasing digitalization," Shmygal said.
To expedite the project, the new border checkpoint opened with temporary infrastructure and will be upgraded to a full-fledged facility in the future, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Territories Development Minister Alexei Kuleba said.
The checkpoint will service cars weighing up to 3.5 tonnes, he said. It will work daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with two lanes for entry and exit. It has a daily capacity of 200 vehicles and 600 pedestrians.
