CIS Railway Council bans export of Kazakh wheat, lentils, linseed to Russia

ASTANA. March 20 (Interfax) - The CIS Rail Transport Council has introduced a temporary conventional ban on the transport of a number of goods from Kazakhstan to Russia at the request of Russian Railways, the press service of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) said.

"The restriction applies to wheat, lentils and linseed and is valid for all shipments from stations in Kazakhstan to all stations of Russian Railways," the press release said.

At the same time, KTZ said the ban would not affect transit grain shipments through the stations of Novorossiysk (North Caucasian Railway) and Novy Port.

"The restrictions do not apply to the transit of grain through these stations, provided that phytosanitary certificates for the country of final destination are issued, and to the direct transshipment of grain from railway wagons to the holds of ships at Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port and Sea Port of St. Petersburg," the press release said.

KTZ told Interfax that the duration of the ban is unknown and would depend on the decision of Russian Railways.
