Ukraine bans import of animals, animal products from Hungary

MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Ukraine's State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection has imposed a ban on imports of animals to Ukraine from Hungary due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease there, Ukrainian media outlets said with a reference to its press service.

"According to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) and the European Union, an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease among animals was recorded in Hungary," the service said, adding that measures were taken to prevent the introduction of the foot-and-mouth disease pathogen to Ukraine.

In this light, imports of animals sensitive to the foot-and-mouth disease virus, the genetic material, raw materials and animal products from susceptible animals from Hungary were banned.
