European Commission president, U.S. vice president discuss Ukraine

BRUSSELS. Feb 12 (Interfax) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and U.S. Vice President JD Vance met in Paris on Tuesday to discuss Ukraine besides bilateral relations, the European Commission press service said.

"President von der Leyen and Vice President Vance reaffirmed the strength of the EU-US relationship and its vital role in today's geopolitical landscape. President von der Leyen emphasized the EU's commitment to a just and lasting peace for Ukraine. She underscored the need for continued unity in providing unwavering support to Ukraine," the press service said.

The European Commission president reaffirmed "the EU's commitment to a fair trade relationship, while both parties expressed their intention to prioritize economic areas of mutual interest, including energy," it said.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Paris AI Summit. "President von der Leyen underlined the EU's commitment to develop AI for the benefit of all while maintaining an open and competitive market," the press service said.
