Ukraine's agricultural exports down 9.7% in Jan 2025 - research
MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - Ukraine's exports of agricultural products amounted to 5 million tonnes in January 2025, down 9.7% month-on-month, Ukrainian media reported, citing a research issued by the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UCAB).
"There has been a downward trend for the third straight month, but it is characteristic of the winter period in the absence of force majeure circumstances," the UCAB said.
Speaking of the structure of product exports in January 2025, the UCAB said that exports of cereals dropped 3% to 3.5 million tonnes (corn was down 72%, wheat down 26%, and barley down 2%) compared to December 2024, the exports of oilseeds fell 39% to 352,000 tonnes (soybean was down 63%, rapeseed down 29%, and sunflower seeds down 6%), while the exports of oilcake after the extraction of vegetable oils declined 22% to 406,300 tonnes (sunflower oil was down 67%, and soybean oil down 33%), and the exports of other agricultural products were down 24% to 329,500 tonnes.
At the same time, the exports of vegetable oils rose 1% month-on-month up to 424,400 tonnes (sunflower oil was up 89% and soybean oil up 10%).
The exports of grain crops and vegetable oils remain at about the same level as they were in the previous month, while the exports of oilseeds were down 39% and oilcake after the extraction of vegetable oils down 22%, the UCAB said.
"In the current marketing year, the vast majority of agricultural products grown for exports have already been exported, in particular, 64% of wheat and 55% of corn. Therefore, further slight reduction of export shipments is possible in the months to come," it said.
