Europarl approves 1.8-bln-euro support package for Moldova, 1st tranche amounting to 20%

CHISINAU. Jan 30 (Interfax) - The European Parliament on January 30 approved a report on a new 1.8-billion-euro support facility for Moldova, European parliamentarian Siegfried Muresan, who presented the report, said on his social account.

"The European Parliament has just adopted my report on a financial support facility for Moldova worth 1.8 billion euros," Muresan said.

"I convinced my colleagues to propose increasing pre-financing from 7% to 20% of the total amount. These are funds that will reach Moldova right away after the facility enters into force," he said.

The Council of the EU is expected to finalize its clearance for disbursing 1.8 billion euros for Moldova in March, he said.

As reported, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in Chisinau on October 10, 2024 that the EU would provide Moldova with a 1.8-billion-euro support package called Reform and Growth Facility to underpin its economic development.
