Moldovan PM, EU diplomacy chief discuss energy crisis in Transdniestria

CHISINAU. Jan 9 (Interfax) - Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas discussed the situation around the current energy crisis in a phone call on Wednesday, the Moldovan government's press service told Interfax.

"I confirm that we are ensuring the energy needs of the Republic of Moldova and are protecting our citizens. The humanitarian crisis provoked by Russia in the Transdniestria region must end," Recean said.

Kallas, for her part said, that "thanks to EU support, Moldova remains resilient and properly connected to the European power grid."

European Commission Spokesperson for Climate Action and Energy Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said at the beginning of the week that the European Commission and Moldovan government representatives would discuss the energy crisis in Transdniestria.
