U.S. allots almost $440 mln to support Ukrainian economy
MOSCOW. Dec 13 (Interfax) - The United States will provide additional economic assistance of $437.7 million to Ukraine, acting U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine's Economic Recovery, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma said, as reported by Ukrainian media.
This includes $74.7 million to support the agricultural sector, $223 million to restore transport, infrastructure and logistics, $35 million to the Project Preparation Facility to increase the number of projects ready to launch from dozens to hundreds, and $105 million to train Ukrainians for future jobs in reconstruction and industry.
According to Verma, the U.S. administration is interacting with private companies, including ADM, Bunge, Cargill and Louis-Dreyfus, to support the Ukrainian agrarian sector and "to get quality Ukrainian produce and grains on family tables around the world."
Meanwhile, the allocation of over $223 million by the United States for the restoration of transport, infrastructure and logistics is necessary so that ports, railways and other communications in Ukraine continue to operate, he said.
Additionally, the United States "will provide $35 million to the Ukraine Recovery Trust Fund to support the Ukraine Government's own, internal Project Preparation Facility, co-developed together with the World Bank," Verma said.
