Slovakia not to back EU plan of full financial support for Ukraine if U.S. stops supporting Kiev
MADRID. Nov 8 (Interfax) - Slovakia will not back the possible EU decision to provide full financial support for Ukraine if the Unites States stops supporting Kiev, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Thursday.
"Some EU representatives say that Europe will take full financial responsibility for Ukraine. I believe it's impossible, and Slovakia will not consent to that," the EFE news agency quoted Fico on Thursday.
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said earlier on Thursday that a clear message about the need to support Ukraine for as long as it takes should be sent to Washington, EFE said. Fico said that the Ukraine conflict does not have a military solution and this conflict is less important for the European Union than, for instance, the problem of migration.
"We should have courage to say that there are more serious problems. If we have funds for Ukraine, then we should also have funds for solving other problems that put the EU at a greater risk, and illegal immigration is one of those problems," Fico said.
