EU countries cut imports of Azerbaijani oil 23% to 11 mln tonnes in 8M - Eurostat
BAKU. Nov 7 (Interfax) - European Union countries imported 10.971 million tonnes of oil from Azerbaijan in January-August 2024, down 23.2% year-on-year.
The value of oil imported from Azerbaijan to EU countries totaled 6.792 billion euros, the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) said.
The five biggest importers of Azerbaijani oil among EU countries in 8M were Italy, which imported 5.244 million tonnes, down 32.5%, and worth 3.217 million euros, down 29.4%; the Czech Republic at 1.713 million tonnes (+37.3%) and worth 1.068 million euros (+42.1%), Portugal at 905,015 tonnes (a 2.5-fold increase) and worth 559.622 million euros (a 2.6-fold increase); Germany at 993,652 tonnes or a 1.6-fold increase and worth 617.423 million euros or a 1.7-fold increase, and Croatia at 862,979 tonnes (-3.9%) and worth 536.313 million euros (+2.4%).
EU countries imported 1.773 million tonnes of oil from Azerbaijan in August, up 15.4%, which was valued at 1.066 billion euros, up 15.4%.
The five biggest importers of Azerbaijani oil in August were Italy, which imported 718,102 tonnes worth 427.091 million euros; the Czech Republic at 237,210 tonnes and worth 145.14 million euros; Germany at 335,130 tonnes and worth 203.867 million euros; Portugal at 227,303 tonnes and worth 136.835 million euros and Croatia at 166,252 tonnes and worth 99.782 million euros.
As previously reported, EU countries imported around 20.3 million tonnes of Azerbaijani oil in 2023, up 2.6% on 2022 and valued at 12.4 billion euros, down 18%.
