Kazakhstan expects to launch simplified transportation along Northern Transport Corridor in Q1 2025

MINSK. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan has presented plans for the development of the Seamless Transit project that is being implemented to facilitate cargo transportation, which envisage the inclusion of Russia and Belarus, the press service for the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) said on Saturday.

"Representatives of the relevant agencies discussed the transition to digital technologies for the creation of a common transport space in the Eurasian Economic Union at a meeting of the consultative committee on transport and infrastructure. The meeting took place on November 1 and was chaired by EEC Energy and Infrastructure Minister Arzybek Kozhoshev," the press service said in a statement.

"Representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan presented the Seamless Transit project to facilitate cargo transportation in the region of Central Asia, the Trans-Caspian Route and the South Caucasus countries, which was launched in May 2024 on the route China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan (Southern Transport Corridor)," the statement said.

The project allows for automatic administration of container transportation by rail on routes from China to Central Asia and Europe via the Altynkol crossing point on the Kazakh-Chinese border. It is being implemented with the participation of the Kazakh Finance Ministry's State Revenue Committee and the national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakh Railway).

"In the first quarter of 2025, it is planned to launch the project on the route China-Kazakhstan-Russia-Belarus (Northern Transport Corridor). The meeting participants advised developers of the digital platform to assess the possibility of upscaling the project to motor transportation in the EAEU," the press service said.

The meeting also addressed issues concerning harmonization of the legislation of the EAEU states in civil aviation, infrastructure development, participation of the member states in multilateral agreements on transportation via international transport corridors, the possibility of third countries' participation in the implementation of priority integration infrastructure projects in transport of the Five states.

Members of the Consultative Committee also discussed the importance of fulfilling the roadmap for the implementation of the main areas and stages of the coordinated (approved) transport policies in the EAEU in 2024-2026. The EEC minister said additional events envisaged by the roadmap need to be approved by February 1, 2025 on the orders of the prime ministers of the member states and the Commission.
