Shoigu: Russia could supply UAE with enriched uranium to manufacture fuel for its NPP

ABU DHABI. Oct 29 (Interfax) - During a visit to the United Arab Emirates, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu discussed the establishment of transport routes and cooperation between the two countries in the nuclear fuel cycle area, the Russian Security Council said in a statement.

"Supplies of enriched uranium products are planned to provide fuel for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. We stand ready to expand such interaction," the council quoted Shoigu as saying.

Shoigu said his meetings with the UAE top political leadership also involved discussions on building the North-South international transport corridor, which implies the construction of a continuous welded transit railway via Iran to Gulf ports.

"Preliminary estimates show that, after launching the North-South international transport corridor, the cargo delivery time from the Baltic Sea to the Indian Ocean will be reduced considerably to 14 days, making it much more economically feasible than via alternative routes," Shoigu said.

The North-South corridor should also be linked to the Northern Sea Route in a more distant future, which would significantly increase the cargo load factor of said routes, he said.
