Russian tourist flow to Japan more than doubles in Jan-Sept 2024 YoY

MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - As many as 63,900 Russian tourists visited Japan from January to September 2024, which is 2.3 times more than over the same period in 2023, statistics from the Japan National Tourism Organization's global website show.

A total of 10,200 Russian citizens visited Japan in September 2024 and 27,100 Russian tourists arrived in Japan in January-September 2023, it said.

Some 26.88 million foreign visitors arrived in Japan in the first nine months of this year, which is 10% higher than 24.4 million foreign tourists recorded in the same period in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic. The largest tourist flow was from South Korea (6.46 million tourists), China (5.2 million), and Taiwan (4.58 million).
