Agricultural output in Kazakhstan up 11.4% in 9M

ASTANA. Oct 15 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's agricultural output rose 11.4% year-on-year in January-September 2024 to 5.596 trillion tenge, the Strategic Planning and Reforms Agency's National Statistics Bureau said.

Meat and dairy production rose 3.3% to 2.323 trillion tenge and crop production was up 17.8% at 3.231 trillion tenge.

The number of cattle at farms in Kazakhstan grew 19.8% year-on-year to 8.396 million as of September 30, sheep 11.1% to 20.955 million and horses 4.8% to 4.194 million, while the number of goats fell 14.2% to 1.835 million, pigs 9.8% to 489,600 and poultry 1.2% to 46.031 million.

Kazakh Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov said at the end of June that longstanding inaccuracies in the country's agricultural statistics had led to inflated figures. The ministry plans to correct the records following the review by removing 2 million misreported livestock and 3 million tonnes of milk. Work is ongoing to verify crop production numbers, Saparov said. He said that while Kazakhstan annually produced around 6.5 million tonnes of milk, only 2.1 million tonnes are processed annually.
