Ukraine's 2024 wheat harvest by 3.5-fold larger than domestic needs - ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax) - Ukraine's wheat harvest totals 22 million tonnes in 2024, and the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry has reached an agreement with producers and traders that the country's wheat exports will not exceed 16.2 million tonnes, Ukrainian media said on Wednesday, citing First Deputy Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Taras Vysotsky.

"The new [wheat] harvest actually stands at 22 million tonnes, while our internal consumption is around 6 million tonnes. Therefore, its production is in any case 3.5 times larger than domestic consumption," Vysotsky said.

The ministry has signed a memorandum with producers and traders in order to guarantee the availability of the required amount of wheat to cover domestic needs and to prevent excessive exports. Under this memorandum, Ukraine's wheat exports may not be larger than 16.2 million tonnes, he said.

Vysotsky also acknowledged that this year's wheat harvest in Ukraine is smaller than in 2023.
