Modi plans to discuss peaceful settlement of Ukraine crisis with Zelensky

NEW DELHI. Aug 21 (Interfax) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to discuss a possible peaceful settlement of the Ukraine crisis with President Vladimir Zelensky during his visit to Ukraine.

"I look forward to the opportunity to build upon earlier conversations with President Zelensky on strengthening bilateral cooperation and share perspectives on peaceful resolution of the ongoing Ukraine conflict," Modi said in a statement published by his office on Wednesday.

He said he was hoping for "early return of peace and stability in the region."

Modi will visit Ukraine on August 23 at Zelensky's invitation.

The Indian Foreign Ministry said earlier, this is a historic visit, "as it will be the first by an Indian prime minister since bilateral relations began over 30 years ago."
