Richard Verma to become U.S. special rep for Ukraine's economic recovery

MOSCOW. Aug 7 (Interfax) - U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma will become U.S. special representative for Ukraine's economic recovery as a replacement for Penny Pritzker, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

"While Penny's position is limited to one year by statute, the work she began will continue. Deputy Secretary of State for Management & Resources Richard Verma will carry forward her work in service of the United States' efforts to support Ukraine's economic recovery," Ukrainian media quoted Blinken's statement published on the Department of State website.

He thanked Pritzker for her work and noted her numerous achievements.

As reported, Pritzker paid her last, sixth visit to Kiev as the U.S. special representative for Ukraine's economic recovery at the end of July. Back then, she said that Ukraine's economic recovery will continue and develop in accordance with the guidelines.

She said later that her office would expire on August 16, 2024.

Verma, born in 1968, has visited Ukraine and met with then Deputy Prime Minister, Restoration Minister Alexander Kubrakov and Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko.
