Ukrenergo not planning power supply restrictions on Tuesday

MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax) - Regional power operators in Ukraine are not planning to apply hour-by-hour outage schedules on Tuesday, August 6, Ukrainian media reported with reference to the national power grid operator Ukrenergo's statement on its social account.

As reported, no outage schedules have been applied in Ukraine since July 30 as two nuclear power generating units have resumed operations following scheduled maintenance and the heat has subsided.

Ukrainian media also reported citing parliamentarian Yaroslav Zheleznyak as saying that the government plans to exempt businesses whose own power generation covers at least 80% of their need for electricity from scheduled power limitations, "as is the case with [electricity] imports."

Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said later that the government adopted a resolution guaranteeing that consumers whose own power generation covers at least 80% of their demand for electricity are exempted from power cuts in line with hour-by-hour outage schedules.

"The state thus stimulates power autonomy of businesses. This is an important element of our energy resilience," Ukrainian media quoted Shmygal as saying at a government meeting on Tuesday.

The state has introduced a package of programs and measures to speed up the development of decentralized power generation so as to ensure a proper level of preparedness for winter, he said.

"This includes loans to businesses and households to build an alternative system of power sources, duty-free imports of power equipment, and facilitated bureaucratic procedures for launching power generating facilities," he said.

As reported, the government's resolution dated May 30, 2024 increased the share of electricity that industrial companies must import to be exempted from power cuts in line with hour-by-hour outage schedules to 80% from 30% during each particular hour.

As of the morning of August 6, power supply was cut fully or partially for various reasons to 482 populated areas across Ukraine, Ukrenergo said.
